MACGLIDE™ ANTIFOULING FILM

ECO-FRIENDLY BIOCIDE-FREE FOULING RELEASE FILM

MacGlide™ Fouling Release Film

We are official UK distributors and installers of MacGlide Fouling RELEASE Film – The eco-friendly, biocide free alternative to conventional antifouling paint. It’s cleaner, gives less drag, increases speed and reduces fuel consumption. As an installed system, it’s factory GUARANTEED for five years!

The History

Over a decade ago, PPG Marine Coatings approached Avery Dennison and asked them if they could coat a self-adhesive film with their revolutionary fouling resistant silicone compound.

The benefits would be far reaching; including control of contamination on application, assurance of surface finish at source, and many more attributes.

As a world leader in self-adhesive technology, Avery Dennison (under their wholly owned subsidiary; MacTac) took the baton and ran with it. The result is MacGlide!

Gel Coat Protection

The MacGlide system is completely impermeable. Eliminates osmosis.

The Challenge for MacGlide

150,000 tons of antifouling paints are used across Europe each year, and every square metre of applied paint contains around 15g of biocide – That’s capable of contaminating 150,000 m3 of water. These paints cause significant damage to the marine environment. Not only that, antifouling paint needs repainting every year!

The good news is that helping the environment also improves protection for your boat – with less maintenance and lower overall costs. High performance MacGlide adhesive film is good for your boat, for your wallet, and for the ocean.

Key Points of a MacGlide Installation

  • MacGlide is a self-adhesive film that suits all types of boats (motor and sail) under 40 metres that are designed to reach speeds up to 30 knots.
  • Motorboat owners will see reduced fuel consumption (typically 5-6% less), and sailors will enjoy higher maximum speeds.
  • The film will last up to five years – compared with 6-8 months for existing anti-fouling agent performance.
  • The film performs well in all European waters, and offers important cost benefits over its five-year life.
  • As a rough guide, installation on a 10 metre boat (material supply and application) will save you at least 25% over 5 years.

An Ecological Revolution

From two world leaders: MacTac/Avery Dennison – Manufacturers of high performance self-adhesive films.

PPG – Worlds largest paint and specialist coatings manufacturer. Mactac and PPG joined forces to create this innovative and non-polluting alternative to conventional anti-fouling treatments.

MacGlide film has excellent fouling-repelling properties (patented), so it protects your hull from colonisation by marine organisms without using biocides. It means you are helping to protect marine life as well as your boat when you choose MacGlide instead of paint. You are also safeguarding human health in shipyards, by avoiding any exposure to toxic biocides. And because your boat can go further and faster, MacGlide helps you to enjoy your time at sea more than ever before.
